GIJO and XCEL

This is a competitive program for gymnasts for girls all Levels who want to compete locally at the recreational level .

GIJO/Xcel are competitive gymnastics programs for athletes who can commit to a maximum of 12 hours per week.   All competitors at every meet receive an award for their performance.

Lakeshore Academy also has an invite only class, which is the pre-team for this program. See your instructor if you are interested.

The GIJO/Xcel program requires only a 2 to 3 day a week workout schedule and only 6 meets a year that are held at different suburban clubs. The meet season runs from December to May, however, the workout schedule to prepare for these meets are year-around.

Compulsory

The gymnasts will learn compulsory routines on all four apparatus: vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. There are 3 compulsory levels that Lakeshore Academy competes: 4, 5, and 6. The gymnasts will perform routines in a traditional meet setting with certified judges and competing with other gymnasts of both their level and age.

Optional

This level is for gymnasts that successfully competed at the compulsory level(s). At the optional level gymnasts will be able to make their own routines choreographed with the help of their coaches. Their routines will be judged according to HSSA (High School Sports Association) rules. Gymnasts will perform routines on all four apparatus: vault, uneven bars, balance beam, and floor exercise. They will perform routines in a traditional meet setting with HSSA certified judges and competing with other optional gymnasts within their age group receiving awards for all four events and all-around.
